Keep Calm, Stay Relaxed, Keep Going

Life doesn’t always come at us gently. At times, it crashes in like waves—unpredictable and overwhelming. But even in those moments when everything feels uncertain, God invites us into a quiet rhythm of trust. He whispers, “Keep calm. Stay relaxed. Keep going.”

It’s more than just a motivational mantra—it’s a spiritual way of living. God calls us not to react in panic but to respond in faith. Isaiah 26:3 reminds us, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Perfect peace isn’t the absence of storms—it’s God’s presence in the middle of them. When our minds are fixed on Him, He anchors us. In the chaos, we don’t have to figure it all out. We simply need to trust His steady hand.

I often think of my dear grandmother, Eloise Holmes Frazier Heyward, when I reflect on this kind of peace. She lived to be just over 100 years old before going home to be with the Lord, and in all those years, she would say her mantra was that she won't complain. She embodied calm. She carried herself with grace, quiet strength, and unwavering faith. Psalm 23— “He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams”—was one of her favorite scriptures, and she didn’t just recite it—she lived it. She truly loved the Lord and rested daily in Him. Her life was a powerful testimony of what it means to keep calm, stay relaxed, and keep going.

That kind of rest is not just a physical act; it’s spiritual trust. In a world obsessed with productivity and pressure, God gives us permission to breathe. To pause. To be still. Relaxation isn’t laziness—it’s surrender. It’s saying, “God, I don’t have to carry everything. You’ve got me.” And in that stillness, He restores us.

But resting doesn’t mean quitting. God also urges us to persevere. Galatians 6:9 encourages us, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Life can feel long and hard, especially when we’re trying to live faithfully. But God sees our effort. He honors it. And He promises that our perseverance will bear fruit—if we just keep going. Not in our own strength, but through His.

So today, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or tired—pause and take a breath. Let God be your calm in the chaos, your rest in the busyness, your strength in the struggle. You don’t have to do this alone. He’s walking every step with you. And as you take that next step, remember this: with God, you can keep calm. You can stay relaxed. And yes—you can keep going.
