Thy Will Be Done

  • John 7:6 – "My time is not yet here; for you any time will do."

  • 1 Samuel 16:7 – "The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

  • Psalm 114:7 – "Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord..."

  • Psalm 129:2 – "They have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me."

Father,

I surrender all that I am to Your perfect will. You are sovereign, holy, and wise beyond measure. I confess that too often I chase my own plans, leaning on my own understanding rather than trusting in Yours.

But today, Lord, I pause to say: Thy will be done—in my life, in my home, in my church, in this world.

Let Your will guide my steps, shape my desires, and calm my fears. Where I am uncertain, be my peace. Where I am weak, be my strength. And when Your plans stretch me or challenge me, help me remember that Your ways are higher than mines, and Your purposes always prevail.

I invite Your Spirit to move freely in me and this moment. Teach me what it means to fully surrender. Let Your word speak, let my heart be soft, and let Your will—not mines—be done.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.

"Thy will be done" is more than a phrase—it's a posture. It means trusting God when His timing doesn’t match ours (John 7), submitting to His unseen plans when we feel overlooked (1 Samuel 16), and remembering His power to move creation and history itself (Psalm 114). It’s holding fast in the face of long-term affliction, knowing that we are not forsaken (Psalm 129).

When Jesus said, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42), He showed us the greatest model of surrender. And just like David, who was chosen while tending sheep, or the Israelites delivered despite overwhelming odds, God’s will—though mysterious—is always good, purposeful, and triumphant.

Application:

  • When things don’t go as planned, say: “Thy will be done.”

  • When waiting feels hard, whisper: “Thy will be done.”

  • When God calls you to something unfamiliar, pray: “Thy will be done.”

  • When breakthrough comes, declare: “Thy will was done!”

Father,

Teach me to trust Your will over my wants, Your timing over my urgency, Your vision over my understanding. In every valley, let me say, “Thy will be done.” In every victory, let me praise, “Thy will was done.” Shape my heart to yield fully to You—for You see what I cannot, and You lead where I must go.

Amen.
